THE FORD MOTOR CO. RIVER ROUGE PLANT BOILER EXPLOSION: On Monday February 1st 1999 a massive power plant explosion at the Ford River Rouge plant left six workers dead & at least 23 people critically injured. The explosion sent a fireball a quarter mile into the sky & the ensuing fire took more than three hours to bring under control. The explosion hit with such intensity that it blew the clothing off employees inside and rocked several other buildings around the complex.
